Havdalah - The short service done at home that concludes Shabbat and holidays. It is done using a cup of wine, and after Shabbat includes a multi-wicked candle, and sweet-smelling spices.
Machzor - Special prayer books for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.
Minyan - A group of 10 people that enables certain prayers to be recited.
Rosh Hashanah - The Jewish New Year.
Selichot - Special prayers recited beginning on the Saturday night before Rosh Hashanah and until Rosh Hashanah.
Shevarim - Three short blasts on the shofar. The sounds signify a broken heart.
Shofar - Made from a ram's horn, the special horn blown in synagogue on Rosh Hashanah and at the end of Yom Kippur.
Tekiah - One solid blast on the shofar, lasting a few seconds.
Teruah - Nine quick blasts on the shofar, signifying a weeping heart.
Teshuva - Usually defined as repentance, however, it literally means turning.
Yamim Nora'im - The Days of Awe, or simply, the High Holy Days.
